Michelin Star Restaurants in Mallorca

Mallorca is fortunate to have a total of 6 Michelin stars, spread between 5 restaurants on the island, with Tristan's in Puerto Portals being the only 2 starred Michelin restaurant on the island.

Tristan's in Puerto Portals has kept it's 2 stars since 1990, under the careful watch of head chef Gerhard Schwaiger, who puts this down to care and attention to detail throughout every aspect that the restaurant is involved, from the kitchen to the table. It's exotic location next to the superyachts in the marina certainly doesn't hurt either.

The "Plat D'Or" restaurant at the exclusive Arabella Sheraton Hotel in Son Vida has held it's star since 2003, and has kept it through the change to the new Catalan head chef Rafael Sanchez, who believes that "authentic tastes and flavours" are the key to success.

Es Moli den Bou in Sant Llorenc near Manacor, has the privilege of having both a Michelin star and the reputation of being the best Mallorquin restaurant on the island. Head chef Tomeu Caldentey, who has run the restaurant since it's opening in 2000 and it's awarding of a Michelin star in 2004, is a Mallorquin, who grew up in the area and only uses fresh, seasonal produce in his restaurant.

Marc Fosh, the English celebrity from Read's Hotel, just outside Santa Maria in the centre of the island, contributes regularly to magazines and newspapers on the island, giving tips and advice on seasonal and locally available produce. The restaurant at Read's has held it's Michelin star since 2002, and Fosh describes his cuisine there as full of Mediterranean flavours.

Es Raco des Teix in Deia is owned and run by German chef Josef Sauerschell and his Mallorquin wife. Previously working at "La Residencia" Hotel, he won a star for the restaurant there, but lost it in 1999. He regained it in 2002 with "Es Raco".

Also of note is "Koldo Royo" in Palma, which although it lost it's star in 2008, still gives diners an excellent dining experience under Chef Koldo Royo.
